COLUMBUS, Ohio — Olentangy Liberty erased a two-score deficit in the first period with a flurry of three goals in the space of three minutes and handed St. Ignatius a 4-3 loss, ending the Wildcats’ season in the OHSAA hockey state semifinals Saturday at Nationwide Arena.
St. Ignatius jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals by Dario Piazza and Cal Basile in the first six minutes of play. But a Liberty power play after Triston Rutledge was called for hooking with less than four minutes remaining in the first period opened the door for Liberty’s Jack Hamilton to put the Patriots on the scoreboard. Goals by Jake Struck and Charlie Hughes followed and the Wildcats left the ice stunned after one period and trailing 3-2.
